About the artist
Contemporary Oil Painting & Philosophy

Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1971, Carlos Suarez migrated to the US to pursue his dream of creating art with total freedom. He creates paintings and portraits defined by the same fierce pursuit of truth that has shaped his life.
Graduated from Havana’s prestigious San Alejandro Academy of Fine Arts—the legendary training ground of masters like Wifredo Lam, Amelia Peláez, Víctor Manuel and José Martí—Carlos’s work was forged in a crucible of technical rigor and political rebellion.
After risking his life to escape Communist Cuba with nothing but his art diploma sealed in a waterproof tube around his neck, Carlos was granted political asylum in America, finally earning the freedom to paint without compromise. Today, he brings that hard-won perspective to every commission. For Carlos, a portrait is more than an artistic representation of a person. It is a testament to a life lived, a legacy secured, and the enduring power of the human spirit.
Working from his studio in Cape Coral, Florida, Carlos creates custom, heirloom-quality oil portraits and illustrations by commission, in addition to his personal-expression art pieces. His work serves as a bridge between the classical fine art tradition and a modern, uncompromising expression of liberty.
